3 Day Family Sailing Adventure from Athens Around the Saronic Islands

DAY 1: Aegina (Town, Temple of Apollo, Museum of the Kolona archaeological site), Perdika

We will collect your from a prearranged meeting point, and then drive you out to the sailboat. Once aboard with the skipper and guide, we will go over the itinerary, safety instructions, and answer any questions you and the kids might have. Then, you can stow away your luggage in the cabins and enjoy the voyage over to the first island – Aegina.

Aegina played an important part in modern Greek history, and was the very first capital of the modern state. Its history also stretches back thousands of years, and it was once an important commercial and naval center. Today, it is a popular destination for people seeking short breaks in beautiful surroundings, and also for the quality of its pistachio nuts.

The boat will anchor near Aegina town, where you can take a stroll through the alleyways, browse around the pretty shops, and make the most of the photogenic port. There are many interesting neoclassical buildings all around, and the setting is perfect to enjoy the new traditional Greek coffee of a frappe!

After lunch, you might like to visit the the Temple of Apollo at the Kolona archaeological site and visit the museum there. On returning to the port, why not buy some fresh fruits and vegetables or pistachios from the floating grocery stores before boarding the boat again?

Leaving Aegina in the afternoon, the next destination is the pretty fishing village of Perdika, but only after we have stopped for a swim and a snorkel first. The kids will love diving off the boat! In the evening, enjoy a wonderful dinner at one of the best seafood restaurants in Greece, and then spend your first night aboard sleeping to the sound of the gently lapping waves.

DAY 2: Explore more of Aegina, Temple of Aphaea, Island of Moni, Island of Angistri

After you have finished your breakfast aboard the boat, it is time to explore some more of Aegina. On the agenda, are visits to a Monastery, some small hikes, and even a visit to a ghost town! Remember to make sure all your cameras are powered up – there are going to be some spectacular views and photo opportunities today!

If your kids like reading the Percy Jackson books, then they will love the chance to visit a real ancient Greek temple. Dating back 2500 years, the Temple of Aphaea is a beautiful example of Doric work, and is said to form one of the three points of a ‘sacred triangle’. You guide will be happy to explain more about it!

After returning to the boat, we then set sail from Perdika for the small uninhabited island of Moni. This is a beautiful and unspoilt playground, where everyone will enjoy swimming and snorkelling in clear waters, lazing in the sun, and taking a short hike through the pine forest. Remember to keep your eyes open for the peacocks and fawns that call this place home! On leaving Moni, we then sail for the island of Angistri where we stay overnight.

DAY 3: Exploring the beautiful Island of Angistri

On day 3, you wake up in paradise, where there is a fantastic landscape of pine trees before you and clear waters all around. Make the most of the secluded beaches by swimming, snorkelling, and diving off the boat – this is your vacation after all!

All good things must come to an end though, and so after restocking with supplies, it is time to make the return trip to Kalamaki marina at Athens, where we should arrive in the evening. It’s been a memorable family adventure, combining the fun of sailing with sightseeing, hiking, swimming, culture and history. The perfect family sailing trip from Athens!
