Hellenic Children’s Museum

The Hellenic Children’s Museum’s purpose is to help children develop all aspects of their personality in order to become citizens who respect their own individuality and to obtain a social conscience.  The museum addresses all children, families, school communities and everyone who is interested in the multilateral development of children or is directly or indirectly related to children.

The philosophy of the museum is based on the phrase “I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand”. In the Hellenic Children’s Museum, kids can broaden their knowledge and experiences in many areas through play. The museum’s mission is to encourage every child to discover, to understand, to learn, to enjoy and to shape the world in which (s)he lives with a respect for individuality and an emphasis on teamwork.

The museum operates at the Athens Conservatoire Building and is dedicated to kids of 0-12, their families and their educators.

At a space of 600 m2, there is room for safe play (Playspace is especially for children 0-3 years old) and many interactive exhibitions. For instance, the exhibit Hello Pythagoras! helps children understand the concept of geometry. At I build and I create, they discover building materials to create different constructions. At the Marketplace, they are taught about the concept of supply and demand, and in The Kitchen area, they experiment with food ingredients and recipes and have the opportunity to cook. Other current exhibitions are The ABC of nutrition, Bubbles, Discovering myself, How do I move?, The attic, The Museum of the Greek alphabet letters and The Us and the Them (about diversity).

Please note that programs in English are offered for school groups upon request during the weekdays. Visitors on the weekend can take part in the program along with Greek-speaking participants.

The museums also designed and implements educational programs and seminars for children and adults and it travels with the Mobile Museum around Greece.

    • The Marketplace exhibition gives inspiring ideas to us parents as to how we can make our daily shopping with the kids more creative.

    • The people that organise the various activities are well trained and have a lot of enthusiasm to keep the kids creatively occupied. In addition, the various activities are particularly innovative.

    • In only a few square metres they have managed to cover a wide variety of activities for kids 1 -12 years old. In addition, the monthly educational programmes that in many cases are connected to the festive period e.g. Christmas and Carnival offer an even greater variety to the activities.

    • In the museum we learnt about our body, we did a collage and made a 3D pyramid with plastic food.

    • The place offers a good chance for mummies and daddies to relax while their kids are occupied by the friendly staff.
