There is no better way to understand the culture of a country than by tasting the food – unless that is, you have the chance to attend a cooking class whilst you are visiting! This Food Culture of Crete Family Workshop will introduce you to the locals, and provides a hands-on experience all the family will love.
To begin with, you will need to know how to select good ingredients. Prepare yourselves for a crash course in olive oil and cheese tasting! In just a short while, you will savour a range of ingredients, and know which ones may be suitable for your meals. Learning how to appreciate good olive oil and cheese is a skill you can take back home with you as well!
Our guide will take you for a walk around either Houdetsi or Alagni villages, as you search for the essential ingredients for your dishes. You will have plenty of opportunities to chat with the locals, and gain an appreciation for life in rural Crete. When all the materials have been gathered, the cooking class can begin.
The kids are sure to love being able to create a range of meze dishes. They are deceptively simple, and providing you can find the ingredients in your own country, they will also be able to make the dishes back home. The cooking class segment of the day is great fun, and everyone can play their part.
Finally, it is time to enjoy the meal that you have created as you sit for lunch. This family feast is one that you will all remember for a long time to come, and will be one of your most treasured memories of Crete.
