Family Olympia Tours with a difference from Costa Navarino and Kalamata

Our day tour of Ancient Olympia combined with a rural farmstead visit is ideal for families staying in the unique Costa Navarino Resort or Kalamata. Fully customizable for your needs, you will be accompanied by a driver and/or guide who will take you first to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Olympia, and then afterwards to a rural farmstead where you can discover more about traditional life in the villages.

    Family Tour of Olympia

Your day begins when you are collected from either the Costa Navarino Resort or your hotel in Kalamata. From there, you will be driven to Ancient Olympia, where the first Olympic Games were held thousands of years ago, and where the Olympic Torch is still lit to this day.

Ancient Olympia is a huge open-air archaeological site, where the remains of temples, gymnasium, and housing can still be found. Our guide will show you around the site, explaining its history and cultural significance to the ancient Greeks. You will also learn that in the past, athletes used to compete for the humblest of prizes, such as an olive wreath. Even better, we’ll show you how to make your own olive wreaths, and then give you the chance to win one as you compete against each other in a family running race on this historic track!

After exploring the site, our guide will then lead you through the museum which houses many incredible finds made at Olympia. These include the statue of Nike and also an amazing display which shows the myth of Hercules and the 12 Labours. From here, enjoy a break in the town to shop for souvenirs or eat some lunch, before we continue on to the second part of the day.

Meet the Locals – Rural Experience in Greece

Driving from Olympia, the second part of the day takes place at a local farmstead. Here, the owners will greet you with fresh homemade juices and in-season fruits before leading you through their property.

As you pass by the fruit trees and vegetable plots, they will describe rural life, comparing how things used to be to how they are now, and showing you their collection of agricultural tools, some of which are vital links to the cultural past of Greece.

After showing you through the farmstead, there will then be time for a delicious homemade dessert and more fresh drinks before it is time to return to your hotel once more. During the drive back, there will be plenty of time to reflect on the experiences of the day, and start planning for the next. Greece is a fantastic country, and there is so much to see and do!
