Is the Peloponnese Good for Families?

We are visiting Athens soon and would like to visit places close to Athens. Is the Peloponnese a good choice for our family (2 kids aged 10 and 13)?

Thank you for your question. Our answer is absolutely! The Peloponnese region is often overlooked by first-time visitors to Greece, but it should not be. In fact, it has a wealth of things to see and do and is an amazing family destination.

If you love to swim, you'll be happy to hear that the Peloponnese has numerous pristine beaches and family-friendly seafront resorts. The best thing about the Peloponnese, however, in my opinion, are its numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

All of the archaeological sites such as Mycenae, Epidaurus and Ancient Olympia are a must see and can be visited independently. For this reason, we definitely recommend the Peloponnese for families who love road trips. If you are into road trips, you can take a look at our  Planning Mythological Family Road Trip in Greece guide.

The best cities to stay in are Nafplio and Kalamata. I am sure you'll love both places and especially the picturesque Nafplion, which offers plenty of kid-friendly activities. Here is a list of highlights in the Peloponnese:

Corinth

Nemea

Epidaurus

Mycenae

Nafplio

Kalamata

Ancient Olympia

Messene

Mystras

Monemvasia

Cave of Diros

Pylos

Methoni and Koroni Castles
