A Family Hiking Adventure on the Highest Mountain of Crete
Any family that enjoys outdoor activities and wishes to get a taste of adventure will love Crete! It is packed full of possibilities, and walking to the top of the highest mountain is one of them. An expert local guide will lead the way as you follow a path to the peak of the 2456m summit of Mount Ida (Psiloritis Mt.). One thing is for sure; this Family Hiking Adventure will be a lifetime experience for both you and your kids.
The walking route follows a well-maintained track, and the ascent takes approximately 3 and a half hours. Along the way, you can expect to see many panoramic views, but of course, it is from the top that the views are the best!
With 360 degree views all around, you can see for miles on a clear day. Other mountain ranges appear in the distance, you can see the islands that surround Crete, and the sea. When you are at the top, take your time enjoying the breathtaking views and capture the fascinating Cretan landscapes with your cameras- you have earned them after all!
The descent back down follows the same path, but takes less time. In total the entire hike takes around 6 hours. Anyone with good health and level of fitness can easily manage the hike, although it may be too difficult for younger kids. It is recommended that people wear good footwear, sunhats, sunscreen, and take water. A daypack is also a good idea.
