Get ready to experience a day in Athens full of adventure! Our family friendly guide will meet you at your hotel after breakfast and guide you to a mythical journey! Our first stop of the day will be the sacred hill of the Acropolis, “the most ancient temples to the gods, in the middle of Athens…” as Percy Jackson says. It’s a must-see for all travelers visiting Athens. As soon as you climb up the hill, you will be astonished by the magnificent views of the Parthenon. The temple was built during the Golden Age of Pericles, and dedicated to the Olympian Goddess Athena, the city’s patron deity. The various myths and stories related to the Acropolis and narrated by our experienced guide, will keep your kids captivated! If you are a fan of Percy Jackson, you will also see the spot where Athena (the mother of Annabeth) and Poseidon (the father of Percy) fought. If you want to take your family visit to the Acropolis to a completely different level, we highly recommend the amazing Acropolis’ 3D app for families. The Acropolis 3D app is actually a virtual time traveling gadget that will make you feel you have become part of the glorious era of the Golden Age of Pericles. With the use of mini iPads, you will be able to zoom in and out, and get a closer view to all the details of the monuments as they used to be in ancient times. Our next stop is the Acropolis Museum. We know that kids are not usually great fans of museums. However we assure you that this is not the case for the Acropolis Museum. With the help of your licensed family guide, kids will be kept engaged by the storytelling behind the artifacts presented in the Acropolis Museum. Furthermore, our guide will make the visit more enjoyable and creative for everyone with interactive games and riddles. This private combined tour of the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum lasts about 3 hours, and is specially designed just for families. Walking time is approximately 40 minutes. There is no need to be concerned that your kids will get bored, as our specialized guide will keep their interest and enthusiasm high with myths, stories, and entertaining interactive games. Since this is a private tour, we always allow time for resting (or a snack) in case you get tired. A quick stop for an ice cream/ frozen yoghurt or a freshly squeezed orange juice is always a big hit! After your visit to the Acropolis Museum, we can stop for a lunch break at a family-friendly restaurant in the area before heading to Sounion. If you can manage a little longer without lunch though, you can all hop on our minivan and head towards a beautiful seaside fish taverna. After lunch, Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon is our destination, regardless of which option you take. The Temple of Poseidon at Sounion was dedicated to Poseidon, the god of the sea. According to mythology, the temple of Poseidon was also the place where Aegeus threw himself into the sea when he saw the black sails of the ship, and believed that his son Theseus – who had gone to Knossos to fight the Minotaur – was dead. For this reason the sea was called Aegean Sea. Ask your guide what the sea was called before this to have some fun with them! Watching the sunset from the temple overlooking the sea will definitely be an unforgettable experience for the whole family. After admiring the sunset, we will take the road back to Athens and drop you off at your hotel. We won’t say ‘goodbye’ but ‘see you again soon’! Note: The Percy Jackson tour to Greece and its promotion are not sponsored by Rick Riordan or Disney*Hyperion and they specifically disclaim any legal obligations or responsibilities for the tour.
