At the same time, you will dive deeper into Greek Mythology and the magical world of Greece, the origin of Harry Potter’s universe! Who knows… maybe this time you will receive the much-awaited letter to join the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!
This 3-hour Athens Walking Tour Inspired by Harry Potter is the ideal way for the whole family to discover the most beautiful neighborhoods and monuments of Athens while having fun. An experienced local guide and a true Harry Potter fan(!), will guide you to the magical mythological universe of Athens through ancient and modern routes in the city center. Together, you will bring to life the Olympian Gods, the ancient mysteries, the proud heroes and the eternal legends! Have you ever wondered where the name of Hermione comes from? Or where the motherland of the proud Centaurs are? Why does the Golden Snitch of Quidditch have wings? Who is Fluffy, the three-headed dog, and what is his story? Enjoy action and magic in Athens, adapted to the age of your kids!
The tour starts at the Acropolis Metro Station and leads you straight into Plaka, the oldest neighborhood of Athens, and arguably the most beautiful. Your first stop is at Lysicrates’ Monument where a surprise awaits you and the door to the magical universe is opened. After, you will discover Athens’ local vibes, while your children experience what being a student in Hogwarts would feel like.
You will, then, make your way to the ‘secret district’ of Anafiotika, one of the most picturesque and authentic areas in Athens, from where you will enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the city.
The next stop on this Harry Potter tour is the famous Tower of Winds, the first meteorological station in the world! After, there is time for a short break at a historic café, to drink Greek coffee (hot chocolate or juice for the kids) and to taste the famous local spoon sweets. What is the news from the wizarding world in Athens…?
You will continue to discover local alleys with beautiful street art and artisan shops. Dark magic may be around and it is your children’s chance to become heroes, like Harry Potter and Hermione!
Arriving at the famous Arch of Hadrian, you will also have the chance to marvel at the gigantic columns of the Temple of Olympian Zeus. How is the King of the Gods connected to Harry Potter?
Our next stop is Zappeion, the first building ever erected specifically for the revival of the Olympic Games. Will our little heroes discover the secret entrance to the Greek Ministry of Magic? Careful though, too many Muggles are around…
The last stop will be at the National Garden (also known as the ‘Forbidden Forrest’ in the magical world of Athens). What mythical beasts or wondrous creatures are hiding in the shadows?
Your tour ends here but you can continue your exploration of the Gardens, enjoy a refreshment in the beautiful café under the pergola, or follow your guide to Syntagma Square and the metro station.
This is a great tour for those who want to explore the city from a different viewpoint. Kids will be thrilled with the chance to become little wizards like their beloved characters and engage in ancient games and classes with their parents. Families will have fun together while appreciating the ancient ruins and their history along the way.
