Hiking in Paros and Antiparos: a Family Hiking Escape

Are you fans of hiking and thinking of Paros and Antiparos as your next vacation destinations? If yes, we’ve got you! Rest assured that you will have the best time of your life!

Your family will get to explore the countryside of Paros and Antiparos, discover the ancient hidden ruins, and enjoy the panoramic views offered at these two stunning Cycladic islands. From hills and mountains to coastal landscapes, these two islands will amaze you.

You can choose from many different beautiful walking routes in Paros and Antiparos. See below sample itineraries.

    1. The Lefkes Village & Byzantine Way & Prodomos Hike

This hike is in the mountainous heart of Paros and starts with a short tour of the traditional village of Lefkes with its labyrinthine alleys.

Then, we continue along the so-called Byzantine Way, a 1,000-year-old, stone-paved footpath that used to be part of the island’s main throughway in the medieval times. The terrain is not hard even for younger hikers.

The tour ends in the quaint village of Prodromos, where you will have a tasty light lunch with traditional Greek dishes.

The hiking route can be shortened.

Length: 5-9 km easy hike, which includes lunch in a local taverna or coffee/lemonade & sweets break.

Due to wildfires in Paros in June 2021, this route will not operate.

    2. Discover the Ancient Marble Quarries Hiking tour and make your own marble souvenir

This is an easy circular walking tour in the site of the old Parian marble quarries (that were operational in the course of 2,500 years), and a visit to the Cave of the Nymphs and the Cave of Pan (in search of stalactites & stalagmites!).

Kids will get the chance to learn about the process of marble sculpting, as well as carve and paint their own marble souvenir under the guidance of a ‘naif’ sculptor in his atelier located close to the ancient marble quarries (+30m activity time, morning version only).

    Length: 5km, 3h, easy, includes coffee/lemonade & sweets break.

Due to wildfires in Paros in June 2021, this route will not operate.

Starting & ending at Soros beach (S Antiparos, 9 km from port) this a moderate difficulty, hike & swim activity following tip of Antiparos Island, along golden-sanded beaches and unique rocky landscapes around Faneromeni Bay and Cape Skylos (‘Dog’).

It can be combined with a visit to famous Antiparos Cave (9km, 4h) and with a “Taste of Paros and Antiparos” picnic.

    4. Biking and Hiking

There is also the option to combine biking with hiking. There are many designated routes where you can start exploring the island with your family on foot, and from a suitable spot, continue your adventure by bike.

Whether your kids are young or old, you will find the perfect walking tour, adapted to your fitness level. All walks are child-friendly and combine physical activity with cultural and archaeological interest.

The hiking guide who will help you explore the island will also give you more information about the flora and fauna of both islands, the landscape, history and tradition.

The duration of the hiking experience for families can be up to 4 hours. The terrain can be quite rocky on both islands.
