Pirounaki

Pirounaki is located in the centre of Volos in a beautiful, spacious neoclassical building. The interior holds a wonderful surprise with its boho-romantic décor featuring plenty of colours, flowers and comfy cushions, all of which give a discretely cheerful tone to the ambience. The tables are spread out so you can enjoy your dinner undisturbed.

The imaginative yet unexaggerated character of the environment is in perfect harmony with the menu as well. The chef of Pirounaki adds an imaginative spin to Greek and European recipes, keeping flavours balanced and clean-cut. If you’re looking for a healthy, colourful choice of food then you are in the right place. Before you order you’ll be served with a complimentary shot of aromatic wine and crackers with tomato sauce. Most people opt for the salads which are incredibly tasty, as simple as they may seem at first. Anything you order for the main course – be it burger, pasta or the Peinirli, will be presented beautifully. The staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful and will happily make suggestions on what to order.

The cocktails list is extensive and definitely worth a try though the highlight of your evening will undoubtedly be dessert. Pirounaki is famous for its divine desserts which range from ‘ekmek’ (pastry topped with custard and whipped cream) with lemon cream, to sweet wine jelly, and the best mille-feuille you will ever try.

Overall the prices are higher than average for a ‘tsipouradiko’ or taverna in Volos, but they’re still not more than what you’d expect in to pay in Athens. Given the quality of the food, however, Pirounaki definitely offers a value-for-money experience.

If you’re visiting during the summer months you can enjoy sitting outdoors at one of the tables in the restaurant’s sheltered yard which continues the decorative theme of the interior. A plus for families is that smoking is not allowed inside the restaurant.
