Athenian Hills and Hidden Anafiotika Family Tour is a really special 4 hour family walking tour in Athens. This tour is ideal for families who want to discover more of the city’s hidden secrets, and find the best places to take photos. A fully licensed guide will lead you through Anafiotika, which has the feel and look of a small island village. If you don’t have an opportunity to visit an island during your vacation in Greece, this is the next best thing!
The first hill on the walk, is Mars Hill or Areopagus. Your guide will be able to tell you all about the stories and legends associated with this, and many other places during the tour. The next stop is Pnyx Hill. The Athenian Assembly used to be held here in antiquity, and it could be the very place where democracy was born. There are also great views of the Acropolis from here, so have your cameras ready!
Carrying on from here, your guide will lead your family towards Philopappou hill, passing by an old church. It is said that Socrates the famous philosopher, was once held prisoner near here. Once you reach the top of the hill, you can catch you breath, and admire the stunning views all around. On a clear day, you can see the Acropolis, city of Athens, and the Aegean Sea. This is a popular place for local Athenians to take evening and weekend strolls.
On leaving the hill, you will head towards the cobblestone lane of Dionysiou Areopagitou Street, where once more you will have some good views of the Acropolis, as well as seeing the Herodes Atticus Odeon. This wonderful Odeon is still used occasionally for outdoor concerts, particularly on full moon summer nights.
Athenian Hills and Hidden Anafiotika Family Tour is a good way to see the Acropolis from many different angles, and discover more about the history behind the city.
