1st stop: Museum of Herakleidon
Explore the Museum of Herakleidon, a technological museum that focuses on antiquity, with emphasis on the achievements of the ancient Greeks and the triptych of Science, Art and Mathematics.
A new section of the museum focuses on the century of research during which scientists have tried to understand the Antikythera Mechanism. Through rare exhibits that are being shown for the first time, early and contemporary models of the mechanism, explanatory texts, drawings, and photographs, the Museum Herakleidon is presenting to the general public pivotal moments in the study of the most complicated mechanism of antiquity (2nd-1st cent. BC).
The museum aims to showcase the advanced scientific knowledge of the ancient Greeks, their mathematical and technological achievements and, most importantly, their innovative spirit.
Among others, the section also includes a more recent interactive reproduction of the Antikythera Mechanism. (the Original is in the Archeological Museum of Athens). Visit there can be arranged separately.
2nd stop: Ancient Agora and Temple of Hephaestus
At the heart of the ancient Athenians’ life, the Ancient Agora, we will find the ‘Ground Zero’. It is the point that served as the starting point for any distance measurement for the ancient people. You will also discover the special method they used to measure the distance between places, which involved a wheel, and in which unit.

Under the shadow of the trees, you will also walk where the great Socrates used to teach philosophy to his pupils and anyone who cared to listen.
