Visiting Olympia with the Family
Duration

Olympia in Greece is the birthplace of the Olympic Games, where athletes competed against one another thousands of years ago to see who was the strongest, or fastest man in the ancient world.
Since Olympia is far away from Athens, we discourage you to visit the site as part of a day trip. Instead, we highly recommend that you visit Olympia if your base is other parts of the Pelopponese i.e. Argolis (Nafplion), Messenia (Navarino or Kalamata area) or if you arrive in Katakolon port with a cruise ship.
Visiting Olympia on a tour is a fun and exciting excursion for all the family. You will learn about the religious importance of the games, see where the athletes lived and exercised, and discover how warring, rival Greek states enjoyed a truce just to compete in the games. Our family-friendly tour guide will even encourage you to race against each other on a track used thousands of years ago!
Once you have returned home from your vacation in Greece, you and your children will remember the tour to Olympia every time you see the Olympic torch, or modern Olympic games on TV. Perhaps it will even inspire your children to become world-class athletes, ready to compete in the Games themselves!
