Our quick checklist for your family vacation in Greece

Have you booked your tickets and tours for your family vacation in Greece? So exciting! Now all you have to do is work out what to pack! While this may be easy for many, packing can be an overwhelming task for others. Don’t despair! Our checklist is a great place to get started and may include a few things you hadn’t thought of before.

What to pack for your vacation in Greece?

Let’s start off with the not-so-exciting items – Documents and paperwork! In order for your trip to run smoothly, it’s vitally important that this is the first thing you organize. As Kids Love Greece does not issue flights or provide visas, it’s essential you do your own due diligence on this. Each airline may have its own policy regarding passports and insurance, depending on your nationality. We highly recommend that you speak directly to either the airlines or the travel agent that helped you with your flights as they know best.

Helpful as we are though, we’ve put together some suggestions below to get you started!

Passports and Visas for Greece

• Passports – You will need a passport to enter Greece, and we would recommend that a passport should be valid for at least 6 months after you intend to depart (US travelers click here). Check and double-check that you have valid passports before you do anything else!
• Visas – Citizens from some countries may require visas (which is basically an additional piece of paperwork) to enter Greece. The Greek foreign affairs website has more information here. Note – US citizens on US passports currently do not require a visa for visits of 90 days or less. More information on the US embassy website for Greece here.
• Insurance – We hope you never have to use it, but it is another vital item to be ticked off your checklist! Good travel insurance will cover cancellations and delays on flights, passport replacement if they are lost or stolen, medical insurance, and a host of other things. We’ll leave this up to you – Again, pick the policy that best suits your family’s needs for their vacation in Greece!
• Medical Prescriptions etc – If any of your family takes specific medication, then bringing along paperwork in case they need replacing makes a lot of sense.
• What else do you need? – We can’t possibly imagine every scenario, so this is a good chance for you to sit back, and take a look at anything else you think you might need to consider in terms of paperwork and documents for your Greek vacation.
• At the time of writing this article, Covid-19 Masks are mandatory. So please make sure that you pack some!

Taking your tech gear to Greece

If you want to make a few Instagram posts from the beach, check your emails, or take videos when on holiday in Greece, you’ll probably be taking some tech gear with you. Smartphones, cameras, laptops and Kindles have become almost standard travel accessories these days!  few things to keep in mind:

• The power grid is different in Europe from the US. Whilst many gadgets and electronic items such as tablets/ phones/ computers account for this, some others such as hairdryers do not. You’ll either need a power converter or better still just leave hairdryers at home. Your hotel is likely to have these available for your use anyway. • You’ll still need to take a European adapter with you to plug your electronic devices into the wall .e. tablets/ phones/ computers. Just arrived in Greece and forgotten to pack one? Don’t worry, you’ll find one somewhere! Here is the US-to-European adapter that you can buy.

• If you are planning an island-hopping yacht trip, you might want to add an adapter with a “car lighter” style attachment.
• Extra batteries, power banks, and HD cards – If you are going selfie-crazy on the beach, you don’t want to run out of power or card space at the last minute!
