Visit two of the most important sites of the ancient Greek world during this Percy Jackson Tour of Corinth and Epidaurus. In the company of our friendly and engaging guide, you will learn more about Greek Mythology, see where some of the characters from the Percy Jackson books were inspired from, and have a fun family day out from Athens!
You will be collected from your hotel after breakfast in a luxury vehicle, and during the drive out of Athens, our guide will explain what’s in store for you. We’re sure you are going to have a lot of fun listening to all the stories from Greek mythology that are connected to the areas you are going to visit!
About an hour outside of Athens, you will make a quick stop at the famous Corinth Canal in order to stretch your legs, and wonder at this feat of engineering that was first conceived back in ancient times. After taking some photos, you will resume the short drive to Ancient Corinth.
Corinth was one of the most powerful city states in Ancient Greece, and it has a deep connection with both Greek Mythology and for Percy Jackson fans! Poseidon, God of the Sea and Percy’s father became the patron saint of Corinth after competing against Helios the Titan ruler of the Sun. Also, Medea who is sometimes known as a witch-queen was said to have poisoned the people of Corinth – In the Percy Jackson books, they use her sunscreen “Medea’s Sunscreen SPF 50,000” to fight the Colchis bull. You won’t need sunscreen that strong, but pack some anyway, as you will enjoy spending some time walking around the site with our guide, who has plenty of myths and legends to share with you!
Epidaurus is another UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for two outstanding features. The first, is an incredible theatre which was so well designed thousands of years ago that even today you can hear people whispering on the stage when you are sitting up in the seats high above. The acoustics here are extraordinary, and your kids will have the time of their lives testing them out, whether whispering or even singing!
The second outstanding feature of Epidaurus is the Asklepios healing sanctuary. People would once travel from hundreds of miles around to this place to be healed from their ailments, and there were even guesthouses available over 2000 years ago for patients! Your little Percy Jackson fans may find the name Asklepios familiar – He was the God of Healing featured in the Percy Jackson book ‘The Blood of Olympus’. Of course, our guide will explain all about the Greek Myths and stories connected to this site, along with lots of interactive games and puzzles to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Finally, when the tour of Epidaurus is concluded, the drive back to Athens begins, but there will certainly be a lot to talk about along the way!
