Sunset Swimming in Athens

We love swimming in the sunset and we are visiting Athens soon. Is there anywhere we could swim with our kids (8 and 12 years old) in the afternoon and then maybe have dinner?

Athens has numerous kid-friendly beaches for you to explore. All are wonderful for an afternoon swim and I am sure you will enjoy it. My personal favorites are Alimos beach, Voula, and Apollon beach in Kavouri. Read our latest blog here: Top Beaches in Athens for families | Kids Love Greece

However, if you are also interested in archeological sites and especially if your kids are Percy Jackson fans: my absolute favorite place to swim in the sunset is Cape Sounion, which has a beautiful kid-friendly beach near the Temple of Poseidon. As the sun slowly sinks into the sky, there is something truly magical about the sunset at the Temple of Poseidon, and witnessing it gives you a better understanding of why the ancient Greeks built the temple at this location.

After visiting the temple, you can swim in the warm waters of the Vouliagmeni thermal lake or in the sea itself. Afterwards, you can also have dinner with your kids at a fantastic seafood restaurant in Sounion.
