Help with accommodation in Santorini

I am going to Santorini with my family but I have no clue where to stay. Can you please help me?

Hello Nick!

Our answer is it DEPENDS... on the ages of the kids, your budget, your interests, how many days you are planning to stay. Depending on your answer to each of those questions, we have various recommendations.

If Caldera views are very important, we highly recommend that you stay in Oia, Imerovigli or Fira/ Fyrosterfani. The only issue is that this comes with high prices. There are also lots of stairs/ walking, in case you have babies/ toddlers so that might be a challenge. In addition, during the summer months, it can get super busy during the daytime because of the tourists who visit Santorini on a cruise ship.
If you would like to be near the beach, we recommend that you stay either in Kamari or Perissa. Just bear in mind that Santorini’s beaches are more volcanic, and are not very long and sandy. That’s why we are always recommending to our clients who are keen on nice beaches to stay 2 nights maximum in Santorini and combine their family trip with a stay in other islands in the Cyclades (or Crete).
In any case, Santorini is a small island and the distances are not too long. Hire a car, or take a taxi (or even public transport) and visit other parts of the islands no matter where you are staying.
In general, we advise parents to keep their kids busy while in Santorini as staying on the pool at some point might be boring for the kids.
