It is particularly appealing to those who seek a cosmopolitan and luxury ambiance coupled with archaeological sites, Cycladic architecture, and a stunning coastline. Mykonos has beaches that cater to all tastes varying from beaches for party animals to nudist and small quiet ones with no infrastructure.

In this article, we have handpicked for you the best beaches in Mykonos for families.  Let’s get right into our selection!

    PLATYS GIALOS BEACH

Platys Gialos is one of the best beaches for kids in Mykonos. It is around a 10-15 min drive from Mykonos town, and it is very well developed in terms of hotels and restaurants. The crystal water is shallow and it is perfect for your kids. Platys Gialos is one of those beaches where the Meltemi (strong wind) is not hitting hard so it can be very pleasant.

    AGIOS IOANNIS BEACH

Agios Ioannis is the beach where the romantic comedy Shirley Valentine was shot. The beach is named after the small chapel of Saint John (Agios Ioannis) that overlooks the bay. Kids love it because of its fine sand and watersports, which are popular among older kids. Agios Ioannis is very organized, however, be aware that it can get crowded. There are some rocky areas on the beach, which make it ideal for snorkelling. Agios Ioannis is accessible to Ornos Beach, on foot.

    ORNOS BEACH

There is an ongoing debate about whether Ornos Beach is a family-friendly beach or not. We answer that “it depends” on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a bustling beach with loud music, and lots of choices of trendy beachfront bars and restaurants, then, Ornos is the beach for your family. If you have teens in your family, they will surely appreciate the young crowds as it is a place to see and be seen.

    KALAFATIS BEACH

Kalafatis is a quiet option for families compared to Ornos Beach despite the water sports facilities, sunbeds, bars, and restaurants. The beach is long, with crystal clear waters and ample parking. Getting into the water might be a bit hard due to the rocky bottom, however, once you are in the bottom becomes sandy and it feels. The beach has small pebbles as opposed to fine sand, so you might want to get water shoes for the kids if their little feet are sensitive. It is highly recommended for families who want a relaxing time on the beach, away from the restaurants with the loud music that you find on other Mykonos beaches.

Similar to Ornos, Psarou is a beach for the party crowds who love exclusive hotels, bars/restaurants, and luxurious yachts. Teenagers who love the party vibes there. That said, the beach is organized and easily accessible to those who would like to spend a day on a cosmopolitan beach, dining in one of the local restaurants. The beach is well protected and safe because of the shallow waters. We particularly like the white sand which is mixed with tiny, colorful pebbles.

    AGIA ANNA BEACH

There are two beaches with the name Agia Anna in Mykonos. We recommend the Agia Anna beach, which is within walking distance to Platys Gialos (15 min walk) and 5 min walk from Paraga. Agia Anna is great for kids because of its shallow waters. The beach is small but organized. Try to arrive early because it gets busy quickly. We recommend that you stay there for lunch at Nikolas Taverna.
