Cretan Canyons: enchanting places in Crete DO exist!

This is a sad but very realistic fact: the unspoiled places in Crete are harder to find compared to 20 years ago. That said, do not despair… there are still plenty of unspoiled spots in Crete! You just need to know where to go and ask the locals or experts!

The Kids Love Greece team did exactly that on your behalf… we interviewed Mr. Yiannis Bromirakis, responsible of about the stunning, and unspoiled at the same time gorges, in Heraklion Crete. is a company that organizes activities that aim to visit the wild and breathtaking beautiful gorges of Crete.

    Who is your key customer?

This program is meant for those veteran vacationers who aren’t satisfied with the mass tourism day trips and attractions.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to kids programs?

The hardest part is getting parents to appreciate why their children need some exploration time on their own and entrusting them to our care. Parents today are overprotective and don’t let their kids enjoy playing in nature.

Specifically, many parents hesitate to leave their children in someone else’s care. In our experience, however, children tend to feel a lot less inhibited and are more willing to work as a team when they’re away from their parents.

Is there something that parents should be aware of before they decide to sign off their kids to your program?

They’ll set off on an excursion with kids they’ve never met, and by the end of the day they’ll be friends with everyone. They’ll bond with each other over their new and exciting experiences.

In addition, when it comes to our program, parents will have to understand that their kids will get really tired and really dirty by the end of the day, but that in the end it will be one of the best experiences they’ll ever have.

    Is there a preset program?

There is no preset, organized program for visiting the canyons. Each excursion is different and we plan our activities based on our young clients – including their age, height, weight, and prior canyoning experience. This is why we always arrange an interview with our client (or his or her parents, in this case) before we visit the canyons so we can make sure we have all the information we need.

    Where do you typically go?

We take the weather and time of year into consideration in order to decide which canyon to visit.

In the summer, our excursions take place either early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the intense heat. There are a few very narrow canyons, which only get natural light for a few hours a day – depending on the angle of the sun – so at different times of year we visit them at different times of the day.

Can you tell me which is one of the highlights of each trip?

Everyone on our team is a responsible professional, but we see our clients as our friends. At the end of our trip, we invite everyone who wants to join us to a local old-time café for some raki and a snack to wrap up our experience in the best possible way.

How do you market your company?

We’re not especially interested in the commercial side of our operation, and we don’t do a lot of marketing. Slowly and steadily, we’ve been able to do what makes us happy and share our beautiful experiences with others. After all, the best (and really the only) advertisement comes from the people who have already put their trust in us.
