The Dolli at Acropolis
Blending elements from various epochs and cultures, the extraordinary The Dolli at Acropolis stands proudly on Mitropoleos Street, one of the most central streets in the historic center of Athens. Featuring 46 elegant rooms, suites, or apartments, Dolli at Acropolis is a one-of-a-kind luxury boutique hotel-maison with exemplary customer service and a view to remember.
THE HISTORY
In the mid-1920s, Dimitrios Kallimasiotis, a shipowner, merchant, and politician, commissioned the talented architect Andreas Kriezis to design and construct his new residence at 49 Mitropoleos Street. Kriezis was also the architect who transformed the Athenian Royal Palace into the present-day Greek Parliament Building at Syntagma (Constitution) Square.
From the mid-1930s onwards, the building was a high-end fabric department store (first as Bazaar d’Orient until 1960, then Tsantilis until 1978, and later Hitiroglou until 2015). Before Grecotel’s 5-year restoration and renovation project, people from around the world used to stroll by and gaze up at the neglected architectural treasure.
Finally, in 2023, Grecotel welcomed its first guests to The Dolli, a fantastic urban gem now part of its collection of opulent and hospitable hotels.
THE ENTRANCE
As you enter the property, look up and be captivated by the Sun of Vergina.
This ancient Macedonian emblem has been meticulously preserved and restored, adorning the lobby ceiling motifs and gracing the halls on every floor, all according to Andreas Kriezis’s vision. Widely used by the Ancient Greeks to embellish coins, vases, frescoes, and statues, its four vertical rays represent the four elements of nature. In comparison, the additional twelve rays symbolize the twelve gods of Olympus.
Guests’ eyes are feasting on original works of art by luminaries like Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau, alongside designer creations from François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne, 18th-century antiques, and bespoke furniture crafted by the finest contemporary designers, including Pierre Augustin Rose, all of which are the result of artisanal expertise.
