Pacheia Ammos Beach
Paleochora, at the south part of Chania district, is considered to be one of the friendliest destinations for families with children. Pacheia Ammos (Coarse Sand) is west from the main two beaches of Paleochora and it is located around 79km south from Chania city. Its name characterizes it perfectly since it is a very long beach (1km) filled with white sand.
The water is ideal for children, shallow, and really clean. The beach has been awarded a ‘Blue Flag’ which confirms that it has all the necessary infrastructure related to safe swimming. Right next to Pacheia Ammos beach, you will find several small taverns with delicious Cretan food. So what we recommend is: relax at this beautiful beach and then taste the local delicacies.
Families should know
- Paleochora is situated approximately 70km away from Chania city and 200km away from Iraklio city. It is built on a peninsula, right next to the ruins of the beautiful Venecian castle of “Selinou”. There are two beaches on the left and the right side of Paleochora peninsula, one on each side. One of them is Pacheia Ammos and the other is called Halikia or Votsala. On days when the sea in one of them is wavy the sea in the other one is usually calm
- Wind (either south or west) usually creates big waves at Pacheia Ammos. In such case, you could visit Votsala beach
- The north-eastern part of Pacheia Ammos beach is less organised, more quiet and usually attracts nudists
