Ancient Olympia is a tour that should be included in all travelling itineraries of families visiting Greece. It is the birthplace of the Olympic Games, the most famous games in history. According to Greek mythology, Hercules, the patron of all mythical Greek heroes and the doorkeeper of Olympus, instituted the first games in honor of Zeus. Legends say that he was the one that fixed the distance of the original race (and ultimately the stadium) by placing one foot in front of the other six hundred times. The sacred olive tree that was later the source of crowns for the Olympic winners was also planted by Hercules. During your family visit to Olympia you will discover the true essence of the Olympic Games, the games that aimed at uniting people from all over the world.
