East Coast of Crete sailing itinerary

  • Day 1: Welcome aboard!
  • Day 2: Dia island
  • Day 3: Mirabello Bay (Elounda, Spinalonga, Kolokytha)
  • Day 4: Agios Nikolaos

Day 1

Koules fortress Heraklion view

The pre-departure meet and greet takes place in the old port of Heraklion. Here is where you will meet the skipper and where your adventure is about to begin. There will be an introduction to the yacht, the safety procedures, and a review of your family itinerary.

Dinner is not included on this first night, although the skipper will be able to suggest some excellent local restaurants. The first night is spent on board in the port.

Day 2

Dia sailing family (2)

Anchors away!

After breakfast, we set sail for the uninhabited Dia Island, famous for its wildlife and its endemic Cretan wild goat with the mysterious name kri kri.  Dia has amazing crystal clear waters, excellent for snorkeling.

Kids should keep a good lookout along the way, as there may be dolphins surfing the waves! Spent a wonderful day swimming and playing in the water, or make a discovery walk over the island. If you are fortunate enough, you may even see the rare wild goats among the cedar trees. The yacht will anchor overnight in a sheltered cove.

Day 3

Elounda Spinalonga

Today we sail along the Cretan coastline, admiring the many incredible sights.

The destination is Mirabello Bay which is well known for Elounda and ancient Olous, one of the most attractive parts of Crete. The sailing is nice and gentle here.

You will also see historic monuments such as Spinalonga island with its Venetian fortresses and the Byzantine chapel of Saint Fokas.

The day can be spent in a combination of swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, and walking ashore. The yacht will anchor for the night off Kolokytha, a small island just opposite Spinalonga.

Day 4

the beach of Saint Loukas or Kolokytha

Setting sail from Kolokytha Island, the yacht will head towards Mochlos Psirra islet. This is an opportunity for more fun in the water, before sailing for Agios Nikolaos.

The marina of Agios Nikolaos marks the end of the sailing trip, but perhaps there are more Greek adventures ahead? Crete is a wonderful place to explore!

Enjoy an unforgettable family sailing vacation in Crete and spend your time swimming, sun-bathing, snorkelling and sight-seeing, whilst admiring the Cretan coastline from a unique perspective!
