National Archaeological Museum in Athens

    Why is the museum important?

The National Archaeological Museum in Athens is the biggest museum in Greece, with a huge range of collections covering all periods of antiquity. It is definitely one of the highlights of Athens that you must see with your kids.

The neoclassical museum building is impressive in itself. Inside, you can find exhibits dating from the prehistoric era to the Cycladic and Mycenaean civilizations. There are many sculptures, figurines and pots, and weapons from the Archaic Period to the Roman Period as well as a section devoted to Ancient Egypt.

    Why book a family-friendly tour?

The best way to visit the National Archaeological Museum is with a family-friendly guide, as the little mythology fans have so much to learn. Kids Love Greece will make sure that your kids will have an amazing guided tour exploring this significant museum and will be impressed by the stories and myths behind the exhibits.

You can perfectly combine this visit with a guided tour to the Acropolis.

What to see if you visit the museum with your kids on your own

If you decide to visit the museum on your own, make sure you get a map of the museum and select the specific collections you want to see, depending on the age and interests of your kids. If they are very young, we believe that they will like the marble figurines, items from the pre-historic collection and the impressive sculpture collection.

For older children we suggest, in addition to the above, the Mycenaean sculptures from the pre-historic collection, the Egyptian collection, and also the antiquities from Thira (Santorini) island, located on the top floor of the museum.
