Roman Monuments in Athens

My son is a big fan of Roman history and we will be visiting Athens soon. Aside from the Ancient Greek history we will be exploring there, are there any Roman monuments to visit in Athens?

There is simply no historical period of Europe that you cannot explore in the capital of Greece. That's why you'll be happy to hear that Athens has plenty of Roman sites for your family to enjoy. I definitely recommend a visit to:

  1. The Roman Agora in the city center: the ancient Roman Forum is located in Monastiraki, one of the most famous Greek neighborhoods. Since your son loves Roman history, he will be thrilled to learn how Roman and Ancient Greek history merged in Athens. Roman Agora is a must visit.
  2. Tower of the Winds: This is one of the best preserved Roman monuments in Greece, located at Roman Agora.
  3. Hadrian's Library: Of all the Roman emperors, Hadrian was the one who had a great impact on the city of Athens. A visit to his magnificent library on the north side of the Acropolis is therefore a must.
  4. Arch of Hadrian: Located near the Temple of Zeus, this Roman arch is a well-preserved sight to visit with your family.
