The Phaistos Disc is a hand-made fired clay disc discovered at Phaistos, a Minoan palace site on Crete in 1908 by Italian archaeologist Luigi Pernier. Because of its unique nature and orderliness, it has become known as the Phaistos Disc after the place where it was found.
The Phaistos Disc captured public interest immediately after its discovery. The disk contains about 242 signs or hieroglyphs on both sides (made from fired clay) that have been incised with a stylus before being fired twice (called "Linear A" script).
These signs are made up of 45 different types of images with various designs, including spirals, lilies, double axes (labrys), and horns. The Phaistos Disk has intrigued scholars for decades. Phaistos Disc is now on display in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum of Crete.
