Mesogaia is in southeast Attica and is famous for its long-standing wine tradition. Being near Athens, it’s a perfect destination for a day’s escape from the city.
Our tour brings the history and flavors of Mesogaia to life. Built in 1885, the Lavrion railway connected Athens with Kifissia and Lavrion, vital in transporting people and local products. The line stopped working in 1957, but the old stations and the iconic locomotive “The Beast” still stand!
You will explore three beautifully preserved stations, step aboard the iconic locomotive “The Beast,” and meet locals who share vivid memories of the railway’s golden years.
But that’s just the beginning. You will also visit a traditional winery and bake wine-must cookies and olive bread. Kids will love the hands-on experience, and you will learn traditional recipes of iconic Greek treats from local experts!
