You and your family will have an amazing full-day experience on the east side of Crete. This tour offers you the chance to visit some of the most iconic places on the island while discovering its rich history and beautiful coastline.
Cave of Zeus
Your adventure starts at the mythological Cave of Zeus on the Lassithi Plateau. This is where Zeus was born, according to legend, and it used to be a sacred place of worship in ancient times. Today, you can explore its vast chambers and check out the stalactites and stalagmites with your guide. This is a super experience for both young and old and one you will remember long after you leave.
NOTE: The Cave of Zeus will be closed from September 2024 to the end of 2025. You can still visit the surrounding areas but you will not be able to enter the Cave. Your trip planner will recommend an alternative Cave to visit in the area or make alternative plans for the day.
Elounda
Elounda is undoubtedly one of the most attractive regions in Crete and your next stop. The small town offers breathtaking views of the many small bays and retains all its bygone charm. You will have time to explore Plaka, Elounda’s small picturesque harbor, and grab lunch there. Afterward, you will take a short boat ride to the tiny islet of Spinalonga, which sits just across the bay.
Spinalonga
The rocky headland of Spinalonga has a long and fascinating history, recently receiving worldwide attention when it was featured in the novel “The Island” by award-winning author Victoria Hislop. Apart from its fascinating architecture and unique landscape, the island played a crucial role in the history of Greece and its Venetian fortress was later used as a leper colony. Today, it is a famous tourist attraction where you can still see the remains of the fortress, making it an extremely interesting place to visit.
When your tour ends in Spinalonga and you return to Plaka, you will depart for your hotel.
