Delve into Cretan culture with our Unknown Side of Crete: Rural and Bygone Crete Family Experience. Suitable for families with children of all ages, this private tour is a great way to see parts of the island few other tourists know exist. We will explore traditional Cretan villages, historic sites, medieval towns, and olive groves. We will sample locally made produce, bake our bread, and visit an abandoned monastery. We can also take a hike through a gorge if you wish! The day is yours to enjoy…

Leaving from either Chania or Rethymnon, we drive through the scenic countryside to a small village hidden in the hills. Here, we can enjoy a coffee at a locally important house and listen to the owner recount life in the 19th century. The kids will be fascinated by how life used to be!

Once we leave here, our next destination is the Monastery of Arkadi. It has a beautiful setting and many legends attached to it. After a tour inside, we head out into rural Crete once more. After reaching a picturesque mountain village, you are invited to join in a hands-on cooking lesson. Or, you can roll up your sleeves and prepare organic bread you will bake in a wood-fired oven!

Our next stop will be the village of Margarites (meaning daisies in Greek!), a charming little treasure tucked away in the heart of Crete! This village is a pottery paradise where clay comes to life under the hands of skilled artisans. You’ll wander through its cozy, winding streets lined with workshops, and watch magic happen as pots, vases, and bowls take shape. We will stop at quaint local tavernas, with traditional dishes made from fresh, local goodies. Surrounded by stunning mountain views and peaceful vibes, Margarites is the perfect spot to soak up authentic culture, snap gorgeous photos, and maybe even bring home a unique ceramic souvenir!

All Cretan feasts end with raki (our traditional spirit) and local sweets; our tour won’t be an exception!
