Volos combines all the amenities of a city with the natural charm of a province. Volos is a year-round family destination and that is why we have listed the best activities for families per season in this top selection.

Summer: Visit the beaches of Pelion

Many people may think of the Greek islands for summer but Volos and nearby Pelion have beautiful beaches too. Volos has a city beach but even better are the beaches at the Pelion peninsula.

Mylopotamos is such a place with crystal clear water. You can also book one of the excursion boats touring to hidden beaches that cannot be reached by land.

If you have enough time, book a day trip to the green Sporades islands. Alonissos, Skopelos, and Skiathos are easy to reach by ferry boat from Volos and feature some of the most stunning and unique beaches in Greece!

    Fall: Ride the Pelion train

The nature of Magnesia is very charming in fall. Take advantage of your vacation in Volos and walk through beautiful scenery and rich colourful trees. Equally beautiful is the ride on the famous Pelion train. Its route starts from Volos and ends at the village of Milies, passing over picturesque bridges and by incredible landscapes. During the journey, you will see all the major natural sights and technical achievements of the 20th century, when Volos blossomed industrially and economically. Once you arrive in Milies, you will have plenty of time to roam around its pretty streets, have lunch at a traditional taverna and buy some handmade souvenirs before the train travels back to Volos.

    Spring: Walk with the Argonauts

One of the main avenues of Volos enclosing the harbor took its name from the legendary Argonauts. During springtime, when the weather is pleasant but not yet too hot, it is great to stroll around in the sun and watch the boats and vessels.

Here you will have the chance to see an impressive imitation of the mythical ship Argo, which was built there as a reminder of Volos’ great shipping history. The area has an elaborate bike road network, great for cycling around.

    Winter: Ski for everyone

The Pelion Ski Center is one of the first built in Greece and is easily accessible from Volos by car. With a height of 1500 meters and seven ski runs of different difficulty levels, the ski center promises unforgettable moments of fun for the whole family. If you are a beginner, take lessons with a tutor and reward yourselves after with hot chocolate in the chalet. From the top of the Pelion mountains, you can look as far as the Pagasitikos Gulf and the Aegean Sea at the same time!
