Top Family Friendly Beaches in Spetses
The pine-clad island of Spetses has long been a favorite destination for Athenians and cosmopolitan travelers wishing to escape and relax on its laid-back beaches. There are several for you to choose from, each offering a unique way for you to spend the day with your family.
Agia Marina Beach
Only a couple of kilometers away from the port of Dapia, Agia Marina is a very popular organized beach consisting of sand and pebbles. Set amongst a backdrop of pine trees, this is a natural beauty with impressive views across to the privately-owned island of Spetsopoula. You will find plenty of fun watersports for all the family to try and when the kids are hungry, a beach bar and tavern serve authentic Greek dishes and tasty snacks.
Xilokeriza Beach
Only 6 km from Spetses town to the south of the island, this breathtaking beach promises total calm and relaxation. The shingle beach is one of the most tranquil in Spetses as the kaikis do not stop there, although it does have some amenities such as sunbeds and umbrellas. There is also a small snack bar, where you can sit and enjoy a cold drink and succulent souvlaki as you admire the emerald waters.
Zogeria Beach
This is a small sandy beach made up of two bays on the northwest side of the island. Accessible via a dirt track just off the main coastal road, you can also get there by boat from Dapia. It is definitely worth a visit as it has crystalline waters, is home to many sea urchins and fringed by shady pines. The beach was used as a key location in the filming of the recent movie, ‘The Lost Daughter’. A perfect relaxation spot, it has some sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as a small tavern that caters to hungry bathers. We recommend you book your table on arrival as it can get quite busy by lunchtime.
Kaiki Beach
This beach is a lively destination for young and old, being very close to Dapia and the town. Think ‘Ibiza’ and you have some idea of what is on offer, from DJs and heady cocktails to water sports and games like wakeboarding, flyboarding, and jet-skiing, your family will definitely not be bored on Kaiki beach. Comfortable wooden sun loungers and cabanas are also available for rent, along with waiter service and beachfront massages. This is an all-day experience for both romantic beach lovers and teens wanting to party.
Paradise Beach
Elevate your beach day to the next level at Paradise Beach, currently managed by the prestigious Poseidonion Grand Hotel. Sitting only a 25-minute walk away from Dapia at Agia Marina, the beach offers first-class facilities for relaxation and dining. After a delightful swim in the pine-lined sea, you can sip on signature cocktails and discover the restaurant’s culinary fare while the kids have fun doing water sports until sunset.
Agioi Anargyri Beach
Agioi Anargyroi is one of the island’s largest beaches and can be found on the southern side of the island. You can get there by kaiki from Dapia, take a water-taxi, or go on land with a moped or bicycle. The sand and pebble beach offers water sports facilities and you can even rent a motor boat to discover the nearby coves and inlets. The kids will love exploring Berkiri’s Cave on the west end of the beach although they should be supervised by an adult as the entrance can be slippery. After exploring, you can enjoy a traditional Greek meal at the beach’s tavern on the waterfront.
Agia Paraskevi Beach
Agia Paraskevi is surrounded by a pine forest to provide a natural shade for bathers. Accessible by kaiki from Dapia or on foot just after Agioi Anargyri beach, it presents an idyllic setting to spend the day enjoying watersports and swimming. You can visit the picturesque church of the same name, which was featured in the book, ‘The Magus’, by John Fowles, before feasting on some tasty snacks at the beach’s small bar.
Vrellos Beach
If you have teenagers, they will love Vrellos Beach, which is where all the action is at. Set in a small natural bay, Vrellos is accessible by road and can be found only 6 km away from Spetses town. Perfect for partygoers, it is also a wonderful place to go diving and swimming, with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent in the high season. It can get very busy at the weekends when the crowds arrive to enjoy the beach bar and the live music performances often organized there.
Agios Mamas Beach
This is the town beach and offers shallow waterfront access, making it ideal for young children. It is very close to bars and restaurants for when you need refreshments or lunch. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available to rent on the elevated concrete jetty, with metal steps leading down into the water. This is the perfect place to have a quick dip due to its proximity to the town and Dapia.
