Greece Greek Easter Red Eggs Food Traditions

The Ultimate Easter Family Activity in Athens

Athens is one of Europe’s most popular destinations. Home to amazing food, picturesque neighborhoods, and tons of ancient ruins, it’s no wonder families from all over the world choose to include Athens in their Greek itinerary.

If you visit Athens with your family during Easter, we invite you to join us in a fantastic family adventure and learn all about Greek Easter Traditions!

    • You will escape the buzzing city center and visit a more industrial part of the city.
    • The Athens Fruit & Vegetable Market is home to approximately 350 wholesalers supplying fresh produce daily.
    • We will set our working tables at the Open Farm’s “Consumers Market area,” a secluded section featuring grocery stores, fish markets, bakeries, dairy shops, and taverns.
    • You’ll experience shopping like a real Greek family, gathering ingredients for your Easter preparations.
    • Each family member will then craft their own Lambáda, the traditional Easter candle. These candles are a vital part of Greek Easter celebrations and are often decorated with jewels or small toys attached to colorful ribbons.
    • We will prepare together traditional Red Easter Eggs and mouth-watering Easter cookies.
    • This is an immersive, exciting activity for kids of all ages, the perfect way to celebrate Easter – the Greek Way!

Our small feast will end with a light lunch with appetizers, wine for adults, and juice for children.

Of course! You will return home with your own Lambádes, ready for Easter Saturday (and lots of cookies)! Every year, as the clock strikes midnight, the atmosphere is filled with anticipation as churches glow with candlelight. The service culminates with the proclamation of Christ’s resurrection and the words Christos Anesti! (Christ is Risen) are announced, symbolizing the triumph of life over death.
