St. Athanasios – Kaimaktsalan
Hewn stones, wood, and lovely tiled roofs are some of the key characteristics of the village. Traditional guest houses, houses, shops and cafes are harmoniously combined with respect to tradition. Amble through the cobblestone streets, drink coffee in one of the charming cafes, try local delicacies and drink raki in one of the picturesque tavernas.
If the ski resort of Kaimaktsalan is open it is definitely worth a visit, even if you are not a skier. Located just 10km from the village, it offers multiple activities apart from skiing.
Try the ‘SnowCat’ ride that takes you to the church of Prophet Ilias located at an altitude of 2.524mts. The church gives you the feeling that you could touch the sky! Once you are back to base sip a nice hot drink whilst you take in and enjoy the view from the chalet.
If you’re wondering what to do next while you are in the area, have a look at our suggestion of ‘Aridea-Pellas Macedonia’ in the ‘Ideas for Excursion’ section.
