What to Do in Rethymnon in Autumn

Many people consider Rethymnon to be the most beautiful city in Crete. The harbor and the narrow alleyways in the old town hark back to a simpler time. You’re sure to enjoy a restful and happy holiday in Rethymnon.

To really get the most out of the old town, consider Caza Moazzo Suites or Avli Lounge Apartments & Suites. Both hotels combine beautiful neoclassical design with a full range of modern comforts and services. And they’re both just a few steps away from the Rethymnon beach.

You can definitely expect good food during your stay in Rethymnon. Othona’s tavern in Vrysakia – one of the more picturesque parts of town – is a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

If you’d prefer being closer to nature, the Carme Villas are located just 9 kilometres outside the town of Rethymnon. You’ll be met with a genuine Cretan welcome! And there will be plenty of chances to soak up the autumn sun in your private pool!

Kobos Tavern in Atsipopoulo is just a short walk away and serves hearty traditional food, featuring succulent roast meats and tasty mezedes (small plates).

The Enagron Traditional Guesthouses offers a truly authentic Cretan experience. No more than 50 kilometres outside Rethymnon, Enagron is nestled at the foot of majestic Mt. Psiloreitis. It’s also near the village of Anogeia, where Cretan traditions and customs are more vibrant than anywhere else on the island. Enjoy the Cretan landscape and get acquainted with the Cretan lifestyle with all kinds of fun activities. You’ll definitely want to visit Anogeia for some fire-roasted ‘antikrysto’ lamb and fresh galaktoboureko!

Why not take a day trip to Patsos and the Aghios Antonios (Saint Anthony’ Gorge) canyon? Take advantage of the cooler autumn weather and cross the canyon on foot. Afterwards, you can visit the Aghios Antonios chapel, which is actually built on the rock itself. And you don’t want to miss the traditional Cretan tavern of Drimos!

Last but not least, keep in mind that Rethymnon is conveniently located between Heraklion and Chania. If you rent a car during your stay in Rethymnon, you can easily visit both cities!
