Visit the Acropolis of Athens and the Acropolis Museum
When visiting these sites, opting for a Private Family Guided Tour of the Acropolis is best. Specialized guides will engage little participants through storytelling and with tablets that show three-dimensional representations of the Acropolis as it used to be.
The treasures from the Acropolis also come to life during the Acropolis Museum for Families Group Tour which focuses on the myths of the Goddess Athena.
For large groups with very young kids, Kids Love Greece can arrange a licensed guide for the older kids and adults and a second-team leader to keep the younger kids (4-6) engaged with creative activities.
Family Walking Tour with a creative twist
The best way to experience a city is to walk its streets and visit its sites with someone who knows the history well. Take a shorter version of the Family Walking Tour in Athens and enjoy the perfect introduction to the city at your own pace.
If your children are into arts and crafts, your family walking tour can be combined with a ceramic workshop where they will use their hands and imagination to create their own souvenir out.
Can’t get enough of pottery? We have created a unique pottery walking tour for young kids called What’s in a pot? Ancient Athens Myths, Games and Pottery Tour. This tour is great for young kids as it combines street games, role-playing and creative expression inspired by pottery and Greek mythology. The lively narration and ‘magical powers’ of the nymph expert storyteller guarantee many fun family moments. This pottery tour is combined with creative art at a pottery workshop.
Hunt for Heroes walking tour
Another walking tour that we recommend for families with younger children is the Hunt for Heroes. During this adventurous and fun private family walking tour into ancient Athens, kids will get a unique look into the lives of those who left a mark in the city. Embark a journey where you enter a world of cultural and mythical characters who have made Athens what it is today!
Instant Camera Activity
For those who love taking photos, we offer a fun add-on; the instant camera activity. Specifically, during the walking tour kids take pictures of their favorite places, items, and food which you then stick on the Kids Love Greece scrapbook/ photo album that they take home with them.
Athens Bike Tour for Families
If you are an active family, what a better way to explore the ancient monuments of Athens on a fun and easy bike tour? You will follow our local guide along safe bike-friendly paths and streets covering much more distance than walking. Young kids can sit on either tandem riders or child seats on bikes. All children and adults received helmets.
This is a great introduction to Athens for first-time visitors who love some physical activity as well. For those with less stamina or health problems, there is always the option for an e-bike. Have a look at our See Athens Bike Family Biking Activity.
Baking Workshop for Families
Who likes Greek food? The real answer is everyone! Our Bakery workshop is a big hit among families and one of the most favorite activities for younger in Athens. During this workshop, kids learn how to bake traditional Greek cookies and create their own edible Greek god/ goddess!
The workshop can be customized to any dietary restrictions and can also incorporate an activity for the adults such as learning how to make a traditional cheese/or spinach pie. In the end, families will receive a printed booklet with our top selection of recipes for the whole family.
Family Mythology Food Tour
Our Kids Love Greece Family Mythology Food Tour combines Greek mythology with foods from Ancient Greece. Walk around the beautiful historic center of Athens with your kids and taste Greece through its ancient old delicacies while playing games and searching for the Greek gods. Suitable for kids of all ages!
Sailing in the Athens Riviera
For a luxurious and relaxed family excursion, we recommend the Athens Riviera Family Day Cruise. Kids will love swimming in the turquoise waters, listening to stories and enjoying beautiful views while parents unwind and savour Greek delicacies. Kids love Greece can arrange this activity on a private basis or you can join a small group in the morning or afternoon.
Customized Your Day in the Athens Riviera
This Day at the Athens Riviera Tour combines a visit to the Archelon Sea Turtle Protection Society, Lake Vouliagmeni, and Cape Sounion. Kids will meet the Greek sea turtle, Caretta Caretta, which hatches exclusively on the Greek coast. The next stop is at Lake Vouliagmeni, where you will have the opportunity to swim in the thermal waters of the Lake. This tour ends at the stunning archaeological site of Cape Sounion where families can watch the sunset over the Temple of Poseidon.
More ideas for things to do in your own time
If you are not interested in hiring a tour guide, here are some ideas of what you can do on your own.
For rest, the National Garden is a must-visit in Athens with young kids. Located in the heart of Athens, this public park is an urban oasis with grass areas and two playgrounds. There is also a mini zoo, a turtle pond, and a lake with ducks. Combine your stop here with a visit to next door Syntagma Square. Your kids will love watching the hourly changing of the guards and feeding the pigeons with some leftover bread.
The Museum of Cycladic Art will impress children of any age. Your kids will love the large Cycladic statues and the interactive exhibit about life in Ancient Greece. During the winter months, the museum organizes weekend activities for kids as young as 2 years old.
The indoor Xplore Entertainment Park lets kids explore science, adventure, and the underwater world in 3 different parks. In Xplore Oceans, you can visit the first and only Aquarium in Athens.
The Museum of Ancient Greek Technology is located in the city center and hosts two collections; the Ancient Greek Technology exhibition and the Ancient Greek Musical Instruments collection. By introducing them to the origins of technology, children can see, touch and operate ancient inventions. The museum organizes several workshops for adults and kids and a weekly musical play for families.
For outdoor play near the sea, head to Stavros Niarchos Park. It provides a lush garden landscape featuring wooden playgrounds, water fountains, walking paths, a labyrinth, and many other outdoor surprises. Older siblings might find the Benaki Toy Museum interesting as a vast collection of vintage toys is on display (cannot be touched).
Young kids will love the up-close animal exhibits, the pink flamingoes, the petting farm and the wooden playground at the Attica Zoo Park. Among the zoo’s other family activities are the Birds of Prey educational program.
